Second in a series 2/4

בקומקום הזה עבדתי בצבעים של ירוק וסגול לילך. השתדלתי להיות נאמנה לקומקום הראשון מבחינת הדוגמא אבל הפעם לא עשיתי זרבובית של טונות עבודה אלא הלכתי על משהו יותר "לייט"
In this one I used lilach and green as main colors - this time I didn't so the spout with scales as in the first one - didn't have as much patience...






אני אוהבת את המראה של הידית העליונה, מזכירה לי קצת דלעת ...
I like how the top came out- it reminds me of a pumpkin :-)


and a little spoiler - the thirs one I am working on is not turning as good as this one... i pilled off the base twice after baking cause I didnt like the result... come back in the mext few days to look at the process and the outcome (if there will be an outcome...)

My new teapot

o.k., although the teasing post is not yet over and has not reached it's 10th comment I can't wait anymore... I want to show you the new teapot I finished - I love the way it turned out. three more are on the way...

this is a close up of the top- the tear drop cutters that I used are the smallest available- but i love the way it turned out- look like a blossoming flower.

A teaser

I know it is a tease .... I am working on a series of 4 tea pots which I am very excited about. The goal was to make the 4 as a series - this is something that I have never done before. I usually make OOAK items and I work on each design as such.

now I decided that after making one tea pot I am going to make all the rest 3 from the same family, meaning they will look similar but yet different from one another whether because of using a different color or any other twist...

now here is the deal - after this post reaches its 10th comment i will add the entire piece picture... sounds fair?

Muse, other mudiums and what is in between

In the last couple of years I focus in Polymer Clay. There were times in which I was painting,decoufaged,glued and such but now a days I only do clay. With the years going by my Polymer clay hobby became more professional, I started selling my work, wrote a book and started teaching others.
Once in a while I get inspiration from other mediums and more than once I have the urge to try and work with other materials BUT my conscience was bugging me –"
what the hell are you thinking about? How can you not work solely with PC???"
But then I understood that looking and learning from other mediums only make my Polymer clay work better and more unique.

Here are some examples:

** I don’t like making jewelry that is all made out of PC. They seem like Plastic to me a dull although they can be very colorful, 4 years ago I subscribed to beadandbutton hoping to improve my beading skills but I never really had the patience figuring the patterns. Few months ago I took a beading workshop with Daniela, practiced and returned with the new knowledge to my clay.


** I don’t like scrapbooking, I hope I am not offending anyone but it always looked to me like children stuff, something with no real meaning but on the other hand I could not argue with the inspiring results that I see. Professional and colorful work in aspects of color combinations, textures and composition. So, I started digging in to scrapbooking and took it back to my clay – a unique and colorful line of Judaica ornaments was born…

** When I was little I used to knit and quilt but for years I don’t do that anymore. Two years ago I was invited by the local importers of Premo to make something that will help them promote the Baken'bend and show its abilities.After a lot of thinking I made this bag that combines, clay,quilt and knitting (this is bag is now owned by Marrie Segal).

There are a lot more examples from other mediums like stamping, painting, silk screening and other which can only enhance your clay work. In my own opinion there is nothing wrong in peeking into other mediums and bringing them back to PC.
So my conclusion is – if you have no inspiration try something else and after a while return with your new knowledge to your PC – you will be surprised at what it does to your work.
I would love to hear your comments on this thread and maybe we can learn from each other.

בשנים האחרונות תחום ההתמחות שלי הפך להיות חימר פולימרי. פעם, עוד הייתי מציירת, תופרת , מדביקה וגוזרת אבל כיום אני עושה רק חימר פולימרי. לאורך השנים התחביב הפך למקצוע והתחלתי למכור את העבודות שלי , לכתוב ספרים ומאמרים ולהעביר הדרכות.
במשך הזמן, מדיי פעם, אני מקבלת השראה מחומרים אחרים שאינם פולימריים ולא פעם התעורר בי החשק לנסות עבודה בחומרים אחרים. בהתחלה המצפון שלי הפריע לי - "מה, אני?? מה פתאם לעשות משהו שאינו חימר פולימרי?" אבל אז הבנתי שהסתכלות ועשייה בחומרים אחרים מביאה השראה גדולה לחימר הפולימרי ועושה את העבודה שלי יותר מיוחדות
והנה כמה דוגמאות,
אני לא אוהבת להכין תכשיטים שעשויים מחימר פולימרי בלבד. הם נראים לי עשווים מפלשטיק וחיוורים מדיי, למרות הצבעוניות של החימר הפולימרי. לפני ארבע שנים עשיתי מנוי למגזין Beadandbutton מתוך תקווה לשכלל מעט את יכולות החריזה שלי אבל אף פעם באמת לא היתה לי הסבלנות להתחיל לקרוא את התרשימים. לפני מספר חודשים החלטתי לקחת סדנא אצל דניאלה לחריזה, התאמנתי קצת וחזרתי עם הידע לחימר הפולימרי ..
אני לא אוהבת עיצוב אלבומים. מקווה שאני לא מעליבה אף אחד, אבל זה תמיד נראה לי כמו משחק של ילדים, מן עשייה ללא תכלית ומצד שני אי אפשר להתווכח עם התוצאות שאני רואה ברשת. עבודות מקצועיות וצבעוניות עם הרבה השראה מבחינת שילובי צבעים, קומפוזיציה וטקסטורה. אז התחלי לחקור את העניין ברחבי הרשת ובמגזינים, למדתי קומפוזיציות חדשות וחזרתי לפולימרי – ככה נולדה לי סדרה שלמה של חמסות המחולקות בצורה גיאומטרית...
פעם סרגתי הרבה ועשיתי טלאים אבל כבר שנים שזה לא מעניין אותי. לפני כשנתיים נקראתי על ידי יבואני הפרמו להשתתף בתערוכה שתבטא את היתרונת בפרמו הגמיש.. אחרי חשיבה רבה הכנתי את התיק הבא שמורכב מעבודת טלאים, סריגה ופולימרי (היום התיק הזה הוא חלק מאוסף פרטי של מארי סיגל)
יש עוד המון דוגמאות שהן השאלה מתחומים אחרים או ערבוב תחומים כגון, חותמות, צבעי אקריליק,עבודה עם משי ומה לא- כל אלה יכולים להביא את עבודות החימר הפולימרי למחוזות חדשים ומענינים.
המסקנה- אין להבהל מתקופה לא יצירתית בפולימרי, לכו לבקר במחוזות אחרים ותחזרו לפולימרי עם הידע שצברתם, תופתעו לגלות כמה עבודתכם הפולימרית משתפרת

Donna Kato's on-line shop

finally the queen of Polymer clay, Donna Kato, opened an on-line shop for her finished products. the shop has just opened so it doesn't ofer much yet but this is exactly what will meke me come back often... :-) waiting for more...

Donna also released a new DVD Tips Tricks and Techniques in Polymer Clay by Donna Kato; is a 3.5 hour 2 set DVD. The information covered includes Basic conditioning, Skinner Blends, Beads, Translucent Layerings, Ikat, Mokume Gane, Metallic Effects, Kato Liquid Medium, How to Make a Box, and Finishing Techniques.

After attending Donna's workshops twice and seeing how great a teacher she is I am sure the new DVD will be a hit for beginners.

היה לי יום משוגע למדיי- זה התחיל מזה שיחד עם רוני גור חברתי החלטנו לצ'פר את הילדים ולנסוע ללונה פארק... הגענו ולא יכולנו להכנס כי היה יום סגור לקייטנות, נו שוין, אמרנו, ממילא חם, אולי ניסע לקניוו ארנה? יש שם את הטורנדו, לנו לא יהיה חם והילדים יהנו... אז זהו שלא. הגענו לשן וגם הטורנדו היה סגור, אז עלינו לסרט, ומסתבר שסגרו את הקולנוע בקניון ארנה... Organis shapes

I find myself drawn deeply to organic shapes made with Polemer clay, clat, resin and such.

these bracelets, made by Ravensclay are the perfect example for that. they represent fine choise of color combination. top level skills in working with polymer clay yet the out come has a clean,not too sophisticated look which make the entire peice look heavenly. you can see more of her work on her website

Jeffrey Lloyd Dever is another inspiring artist who works with organic shapes. his way of using skinner blends in his work and the color he uses is so pretty.

the delicate, Japanese style cane and beads made by Olga are so impressive. I don't know how big they are but I think they will look great combined with pearls.
